Home - Divorce

The complexity of the divorce can range from very simple to extraordinarily complex. Among DINKs, [dual income no kids) we often just have to prepare the paperwork. But, as well can one imagine, the complexity only begins at that point. Often married people own home, pension plans, vehicles, or other types of property that must be divided according to the community property rules of the state of California. Often there is separate property that must be protected from the claims of the opposing spouse. Often there are children ranging in ages from infant to 18 whose schedules must be established; sometimes there is high conflict the establishment of their schedules; sometimes they just need to be worked out with a couple of letters.

Occasionally, and not infrequently, the reason there is a divorce may be because one or both parties experiences mental illness. These cases are unfortunate, but they do occur and we are prepared to deal with them.

Again, it is not uncommon for the issues of child support, spousal support, management and control of property, property restraining orders (e.g. exclusive possession of the family or business), or even domestic violence restraining orders.

Again, it is not uncommon for the parties to contemplate bankruptcy or the establishment of other causes of action in the civil courts (assault and battery).

Our firm is highly specialized in the area of divorce, and is prepared to handle all of these issues competently.

We would like to come to an agreement on all issues, if possible, but in no event do we want to encourage our clients to give away their future in exchange for peace. Such transactions seldom actually accomplish peace. Mr. Gassner was long involved in the business of military contracting, developing large weapon systems for use in the American (and foreign) military and defense organizations. Sometime around the period of the Gulf War, he decided to focus on making peace rather than more. If we do our job right, and at some point in time there will be nothing left for the parties to fight about. At that point, peace can be established, and you may achieve peace of mind. That is the goal of our practice, and we do our best never to take our eyes off of the goal.

To achieve that goal, we engage in the preparation and presentation of litigation papers, the conduct of mediation in the preparation of marital agreements, the establishment and enforcement of support, the legal restraint of violent or harassing conduct, and all other issues that may come up in family law. In the past 26 years, Mr. Gassner has seen it all.
